When Senator Conroy was given the job of selling a mandatory internet filter to Australia, there is no doubt he would have taken a long, deep breath and thought of something else, anything else, than of the hard battle against free speech advocates that lay ahead of him. But Risk wonders, would breasts have crossed his mind?
If they hadn’t already, a group of hackers linked with the group Anonymous have made sure he is now ‘abreast’ of all aspects of the censorship debate. In opposition to internet censorship, the hackers bought down Parliament websites, and followed up with a vigilante flesh flinging episode via email, phone and fax, sure to leave even the most cool and calm Senator slightly hot under the collar.
This left Risk pondering. Would Senator Conroy take the rose-coloured hint and drop his filtering plan, pleading with the Government that the issue was just too hot? Or would the pornographic tsunami simply harden the Minister, leaving him more determined to ram through the censorship plan? Or was “Operation Titstorm” just a passing fantasy of a group of bored, publicity-hungry “kiddies” with a favourites list of the X-rated variety?
One thing is for sure, the attack will be putting the fear of flesh into risk managers - after organised crime gangs catch on to the strategy, they may find corrupting geeky IT departments with a few waves of XXX will get bank security doors opened wide to them.
