Banks, healthcare organisations, insurers, youth service providers, developers and government departments were all represented in the finals, but on the night, there could only be five winners.
The Institute of Internal Auditors award for best risk or compliance training and education program, presented by Gary Anderson, vice-president at the IIA, went to SafeClub for its work on injury reduction in youth sports clubs. The award was accepted by Kristy Abbot. The KPMG young risk professional of the year award – for professionals under 35 – was taken out by the Commonwealth Bank’s William Chan and was presented by KPMG partner Mike Richie. Chan is executive manager of Basel II credit risk at the bank.
Vero Insurance took the Protiviti award for best implementation of a risk or compliance focused strategy. Paul Muir, head of portfolio risk management at the insurer collected the award from Protiviti’s Mark Harrison.
Queensland-based Blue Care was named winner of the Cura Software Solutions award for best use of technology in a risk and compliance project. Andrea Kanserski and Garry Pridham received the award from Mark Bookatz, Cura CEO.
The final award, PricewaterhouseCoopers’ risk professional of the year, was taken by St.George Bank’s Greg Woodbury, senior quantitative analyst at the firm. The award was collected from PwC’s Alan Hui by Garry Dingley, group operational risk manager at the bank.
