Established in 1996 as the “captive insurer” for the State of Victoria, the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) exhibits extraordinary diversity in its business portfolio. The VMIA is one of the largest providers of medical indemnity insurance in Australia.

Risk Engineer (2 positions)

This role is to provide loss prevention engineering services to clients that identify material exposures in their operations and develop pragmatic and credible recommendations aimed at loss minimisation and risk prevention. Service delivery to clients is primarily based on site inspections that assess physical assets and the potential for business interruption, personal injury and environmental damage. Success in this role requires building collaborative client relationships that result in the design and implementation of effective programs for risk assessment and management of a diverse range of Victoria’s physical assets, operations and major events. This work also supports strategy for premium setting and reinsurance negotiations. In addition to a demonstrated client orientation, successful candidates will have superior interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, supported by relevant qualifications and an extensive risk engineering background, covering asset protection, general liability, fire/life safety, OH&S and environmental disciplines across diverse industry types. Risk Management Advisor (2 positions)

Joining either the public healthcare or general Government practice you will provide risk management advice to VMIA clients, assuming primary responsibility for the design, development, implementation and ongoing management of risk quality reviews and reporting frameworks. Focusing on continuous improvement and best practice, you will champion the role of risk management to the highest levels within VMIA client organisations. With a track record of success as a professional services consultant, internal risk management specialist, or project manager, you will demonstrate significant commercial exposure, in either a private or public sector environment, to the application of best practice Australian standards in contemporary risk management. Success will require superior leadership, business analysis, communications and client relationship management skills.

Client Relationship Executive (4 positions)

Taking a team leadership role within either the public healthcare or the general Government practice, each Client Relationship Executive will be responsible for facilitating the provision of risk management advisory and insurance consulting services to the VMIA client base. Bringing analytical rigour, creativity and a solutions-oriented approach, you will ensure that your team works collaboratively with cross-functional resources to increase clients’ understanding of, and capability in, the identification, management and mitigation of insurance risk. Possessing the interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills required to build strong relationships with clients, peers and staff, you will have a demonstrated track record in coordinating design and delivery of leading risk management and insurance programs in either a public or private sector environment. Qualified at least to degree level in a relevant commercial / business discipline, you will preferably have further qualifications in risk management and be eligible for entry to the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance.
